Objectives

In this module we will discuss the approach to a patient with Anorexia Nervosa. This includes a comprehensive list of physical signs and symptoms as well as follow the DSM-V criteria to arrive at the diagnosis. When evaluating a patient with an eating disorder, you will learn that in addition to evaluating a patient for physical signs, a psychiatric examination is essential, not forgetting the screening for suicidality. Management is based on the degree of malnutrition as well as the patient’s suicide risk. In all cases a multidisciplinary team must be involved, using the Family based treatment.
