Objectives
In this module, we will discuss the approach to a patient who presents with breast discharge, and its causes, including local and systemic diseases. You will learn using the SOAP approach, the five causes of galactorrhea and how to distinguish them apart. You will also learn what questions to ask, including is the discharge unilateral or bilateral, if there was a recent pregnancy, and if there are any additional symptoms such as oligo- or amenorrhea. You will learn what to look for in your physical examination, including breast masses, skin abnormalities, lymphadenopathy, and whether or not to perform additional tests on the discharge. Lastly, you will learn the management and plan of breast discharge using interesting interactive cases.
