In this module, we will take you through a comprehensive review of the concepts of health and the determinants of health, paying particular attention to the social determinants of health. You will learn about key terms related to concepts of health and will also gain an understanding of the key social factors, such as education and literacy, income and social status, and physical environments and working conditions, and their impact on the health of an individual. Clinical case examples will be presented to illustrate the importance of understanding the social context of patients. You will learn what questions to ask in history as well as how to develop a comprehensive management plan for patients that takes into consideration their social determinants of health.
