Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to define constipation and formulate a differential diagnosis. The learner will be able to distinguish between primary and secondary constipation. Participants will be able to carry out a focused history and identify red flags which may represent serious underlying pathology. In addition, the learner will acquire knowledge on performing a physical examination and identifying patients that need special investigations. Finally, participants will be able to formulate a management plan for the patient presenting with constipation.
