Objectives

In this module, we will discuss how to approach a patient presenting with a headache. In addition to differentiating between primary and secondary headaches, you will learn about the ‘SNOOP’ framework to remembering the signs and symptoms of secondary causes of headaches. These include systemic symptoms, neurologic signs, and previous headache history. The significance of key findings on physical exam, such as high blood pressure and bilateral optic disc swelling, will also be discussed. Lastly, you will learn about the approach to and management of some secondary causes of headaches, such as giant cell arteritis and basilar tip aneurysm.
