Objectives

In this module, we will discuss the approach to a patient with Parkinson’s disease. You will gain an understanding of movement disorders and where Parkinson’s disease falls on the spectrum. Since Parkinson’s disease is a clinical diagnosis, the history and physical examination are important. Cardinal features of Parkinson’s disease will be discussed in detail as well as Parkinson’s plus syndromes. Although Idiopathic Parkinson’s disease is most common, we will discuss other possible causes of Parkinsonism. Finally, you will gain an understanding of the principles of management.
