Objectives
In this module, we will discuss the approach to a patient in status epileptics. You will learn about critical factors to consider in initial evaluation of the patient and the clinical significance of some of the signs present on this initial examination, such as abnormal blood pressure or low blood glucose levels. The appropriate stabilization of patients in status epilepticus and which medications should be administered to stop the seizure will also be discussed. Lastly, you will gain an understanding about special circumstances related to status epilepticus, such pregnancy and alcohol abuse, and how best to manage these patients.
